Clean the air filter regularly and have your
air conditioner inspected annually. Regular aircon
maintenance may extend the life of your
equipment and help you to save money by
lowering your energy bills. Poorly maintained
air conditioners can waste a tremendous amount
of energy. A clogged filter will also impair
the performance of the unit.
The most optimum interior temperature is 25 degrees
C ~ 28 degrees C. It is economic and desirable for
your health to keep the temperature
difference below 5 degrees C between the interior
and exterior. Each degree Celsius that the
temperature set point
raised
represents an energy saving of at least 10%.
3. Using a fan
Use an interior fan in conjunction with your
window air conditioner to spread the cooled
air more effectively through your home without greatly increasing
your
power use.
4. Switch on and off
Switch on aircon
units 30 minutes after the start of office
hours, switching it off 30 minutes before closing of office hours.
5. Refrigerant
level
Check
and
replenish refrigerant
levels as needed.
6. Turn off exhaust fans
Put off the exhaust fans
while the aircon units are in operation.
7. Keep opening closed
To
prevent conditioned air from escaping, keep windows,
doors and any other opening closed.
8. Installing window unit
Install
window-type air-conditioners at the highest
accessible place.
9. Air intake and
outlet
Do not block
the air intake and
outlet of the unit. If they are obstructed,
the unit will not work well, and may
be damaged.
10. Direct sunlight
Do not let direct sunlight
into the room.
Use sunshades, blinds or curtains.
If the walls and ceiling of the room are
warmed by the sun, it will take longer to cool
the room.
11. Undersize aircon
Do not Install an under size aircon.
Ensure that the aircon unit is properly
sized for your home. Operating a unit, which
is either too large or too small, is highly
inefficient. It is also more energy efficient to install
a split unit if you are cooling more
than one room.
12. Heat source
Do not place lamps or TV sets near
your air-conditioning thermostat. The
thermostat senses heat from these appliances,
which can cause the
air conditioner to run longer
than necessary.
